Why Your Membership Matters
The years 2025–2027 will be pivotal for our beaches. Thanks to persistent community advocacy and support, we have achieved the following:
-
Vilano Beach: The Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) project is now complete. Recent storms proved its success, thanks to emergency renourishment by the U.S. Army Corps following Hurricanes Nicole and Ian. This demonstrates the value of a federally managed beach.
-
FEMA Category G Sand Project: This project will restore beach areas between 2539 SPV and Serenata with 1 million cubic yards of sand by late 2025/early 2026. It is already fully funded by FEMA, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FL DEP), and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FL DEM). Over 90% of the necessary easements have been secured.
If you are among the 27 property owners who have not yet submitted your SJC Coastal Management easement, please contact Kelly McTaggart at (904) 209-1276 or email at kmctaggart@sjcfl.us
List of Property Addresses where easement has not been returned:
-
South Ponte Vedra: The CSRM project has been approved by the Army Corps and is included in the 2024–2026 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), pending congressional funding for the Pre-Construction Engineering and Design (PED) stage.
-
Porpoise Point Drive Armoring: Completed. A new 125-foot seawall now connects existing shoreline structures, protecting upland property and infrastructure.
-
Porpoise Point Shoreline Stabilization: Currently in the design and permitting phase. This project will develop long-term erosion control measures to safeguard property and infrastructure. Funding efforts are underway. A public meeting was held on March 31st — a copy of the presentation is available on our website.

These accomplishments are possible because of a united and proactive community. That’s where your support makes a real difference.
