Why Your Membership Matters

The years 2026–2028 will be pivotal for our beaches. Thanks to persistent community advocacy and support, our beaches are in line for renourishment and infrastructure projects:

  • SPV FEMA Cat G Sand Project: This project will restore beach areas between 2539 SPV and Serenata with over 1 million cubic yards of sand estimated for Summer 2026. It is fully funded by FEMA, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FL DEP), and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FL DEM). Over 93% of the necessary easements have been secured.

If you are among the 18 property owners who have not yet submitted your SJC Coastal Management easement, please contact Kelly McTaggart at (904) 209-1276 or email at kmctaggart@sjcfl.us

  • SPV Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) project: The federal project is approved and the Army Corps will begin work on the Pre-Construction Engineering and Design (PED) stage.  The PED will take approximately a year to complete.

  • Serenata PUD Public Access parcels:  this is a quickly developing issue that will come before the SJC Board of County Commissioners on March 3rd.  This Association is working very hard to maintain public access as prescribed in the original PUD.

  • Vilano Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Sand Analysis: The Army Corps of Engineers are completing their analysis from the 2025 storm season to determine if an interim renourishment is needed.

  • Vilano Beach FDOT project (Ocean Sands Beach Inn to Carcaba Road):  FDOT has initiated a hurricane repair project on State Road A1A to rebuild the sheet pile wall and resurface the road, with completion in Spring 2026.

  • Porpoise Point Ramp Hardening: SJC is implementing a resiliency project to raise and harden the Porpoise Point Vehicular Access Ramp to protect the area from tidal flooding and tropical weather.

  • Porpoise Point Shoreline Stabilization: Permitting work has begun for this long-term erosion control measure to safeguard property and infrastructure. The permits are good for 15 years once approved.

These accomplishments are possible because of a united and proactive community. That’s where your support makes a real difference.
